The Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan is pleased to announce that the lien on the withdrawal of Ngultrum counter-value against the public deposits of the demonetized Indian Rupee notes will be lifted from 8th May 2017. All depositors must sign a letter of undertaking at your respective bank for the lien to be lifted – depositors must produce CID along with taxpayer number / business license number, where applicable.
A few deposits are still under the review of the relevant authorities and the lien on these deposits shall be lifted only upon clearance by the relevant authorities. Please contact your bank to find out if your account is in this list.
We would like to thank the general public for your patience as the both the Government and the RMA worked with our counterparts in India to resolve the issue. We solicit the full cooperation and assistance in the matter from all the commercial banks and concerned clients thereof.
